WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) Democrats, who will be a majority in the new Congress in 2019, should reaffirm direct oversight of the Yemen issue, US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith said in a press release.
On Wednesday, Republicans in the House of Representatives did not allow a vote on a resolution to halt US arms support to the Saudi-led international military coalition operating in Yemen.
"A Democratic majority in the new Congress must reassert close oversight regarding Yemen," Smith said in the release.
The action taken by Republicans suspends the ability of Congress to have an open debate on the Yemen issue, and while the problem remains unsolved, the humanitarian crisis in the country continues to worsen, Smith added.
