Dragons edge Ospreys to end four-year wait for Welsh win

London, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st Dec, 2018 ) :The Dragons enjoyed their first Pro14 win against a fellow Welsh region with a nail-biting 23-22 success on Sunday after Ospreys fly-half Sam Davies missed a penalty in the closing seconds.

You had to go back to Boxing Day 2014, when the Newport-Gwent combination beat the Cardiff Blues, for the last time the Dragons had defeated a domestic rival at this level.

It seemed they were facing yet another defeat when the previously faultless Davies, who had earlier kicked five penalties for the Ospreys, and converted a second-half try from captain Justin Tipuric, was given a potentially match-winning shot at goal from just 22 metres out.

But for once in this match he was off target for the Ospreys, formed out of the Neath and Swansea club sides, and the Dragons clung on to the delight of their loyal, if long-suffering, fans.

The hosts, under the caretaker charge of acting head coach Ceri Jones, appointed after former boss Bernard Jackman was sacked earlier this season, outscored the Ospreys two tries to one.

Jared Rosser, a wing, and hooker Elliot Dee both crossed for scores converted by Josh Lewis.

The fly-half also kicked two penalties, with replacement Jason Tovey landing another.
