El Salvador's Parliament Evacuated Over Earthquake - Official

SAN SALVADOR (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 02nd February, 2019) The staff of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador was evacuated over the risk of the building collapse due to an earthquake that occurred in the region, the parliament's human resources manager, Mauricio Dubon, said.

On Friday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported about the magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Guatemala near the Mexican border. The tremors were recorded at 16.14 GMT.

The epicenter of the quake was located five kilometers (3.1 miles) to the east of the town of Tuxtla Chico in southern Mexico, while the focus of the earthquake was registered at the depth of 95 kilometers.

"The staff was instructed to leave the building and go home," Dubon said.

El Salvador's presidential palace was also evacuated due to the earthquake on Friday.

The country's Environment Ministry said that the quake was mostly felt in the areas close to the Guatemalan border.
