TALLINN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) Estonian Defense Minister Juri Luik and his Japanese counterpart Itsunori Onodera agreed at a meeting in Tokyo on Friday to boost bilateral cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, the Estonian Defense Ministry's press service said in a statement.

On Wednesday, Luik arrived on a three-day visit in Japan. As part of his visit, Luik took part in a round table organized by the Japanese National Institute for Defense Studies and visited one of divisions responsible for cybersecurity.

"Japan has a considerable experience in the field of information technology and cyber field.

Estonia and Japan decided to enhance cooperation in the field of cyber defense, for example, by means of joint training and the use of infrastructure," Luik said as quoted in the statement.

In May, Onodera became Japan's first defense minister to visit Estonia. During that visit Onodera and Luik confirmed that Japan and Estonia understood the importance of cyber defense and the necessity to ensure large-scale cooperation in the field both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of NATO. In January, Japan joined the work of NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in the Estonian capital.
