Estonian President Discussed Tallinn's Bid For UNSC Membership In Moscow - Reports

TALLINN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th April, 2019) Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid addressed Estonia's aspirations to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) during her official visit to Russia, media have reported.
On Thursday, Kaljulaid arrived in Moscow. The president took part in the opening of the renovated building of the Estonian embassy and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Kremlin aide, Yury Ushakov, participated in the talks from the Russian side, while from the Estonian side, the talks were attended by Ambassador to Russia Margus Laidre and Tiit Riisalo, the director of the presidential office.
The Postimees newspaper reported that during the negotiations, Kaljulaid had asked Lavrov about the possibility for Estonia to become a UNSC member.
The outlet also quoted the Estonian president as noting the importance of her visit to Moscow.
Estonia is currently holding a campaign to secure a seat in the UNSC for 2020-2021. The voting on the issue will be held by all UN members in June with Estonia required to receive 129 votes to secure the membership.
