MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2018) European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Vera Jourova said Monday she was deeply concerned over the results of the recent survey showing that anti-semitism was on the rise in Europe, with nine out of 10 Jews reporting that anti-semitism had increased in the past five years.
The survey by the EU Fundamental Rights Agency showed that 85 percent of Jews in Europe believe anti-semitism to be the largest social or political issue in their country, while 28 percent of the survey respondents reported having been harassed at least once in the last year.
"I find the results of the survey done by Fundamental Rights Agency extremely worrying. The figures we published today are a stark reminder of this, and, unfortunately, the situation has worsened over the last five years," Jourova told reporters.
The survey showed that 89 percent of Jews thought that anti-semitism was most worrying on the internet and on social media.
In addition, 70 percent found the efforts of the EU member states to fight anti-semitism ineffective.
