MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2021) The European Union member states' defense ministers will discuss the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border at their upcoming meeting in Brussels, Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, said Thursday.
"During the meeting, we will have, for sure, to pay attention to what's happening on the Ukrainian border, the Russian border. Ministers would like to talk about that, for sure," Borrell said ahead of the meeting.
The situation in Sahel, "which is not improving," will be another topic for discussion, the EU top diplomat said. The European Union defense ministers will discuss the security crisis in Mozambique as well.
The improvement of EU strategic missions will be the main focus of the meeting, Borrell said.
Western countries have recently expressed concern over alleged aggression on part of Russia toward Ukraine. Washington remarked on Russian troops' deployment in Crimea and close to Ukraine's eastern border. The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that Russia can deploy its troops on its territory as it pleases; it is no threat to anyone and nobody's concern.
The Kremlin spokesman has noted that the situation along the contact line in eastern Ukraine, where local militias are locked in conflict with the Ukrainian government, is frightening and Ukrainian forces are carrying out multiple provocations.
