MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th November, 2018) Manfred Weber, the leader of Europe's largest parliamentary group, warned Thursday that the European People's Party backing of the Brexit draft deal was not guaranteed.
"EPP Group will examine the text carefully... We need to have a clear picture about how future relations between the EU and the UK will look before we vote. Our vote should not be taken for granted," he tweeted.
The provisional deal on the terms of UK's withdrawal from the union was agreed this week by EU and UK negotiators.
The European parliament and the British legislature will both have a say on it.
"At this stage the ball is still in the UK's court. It should be clear though that the European Parliament is the last to approve the deal," Weber stressed.
The German politician has recently won the nomination of the European People's Party to stand in the race for the next president of the European Commission. The United Kingdom is due to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019.
