Ex-Trump Lawyer Cohen Postpones Congressional Testimony Amid Threats To Family - Attorney

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) US President Donald Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen has postponed his February 7 testimony to Congress due to threats to his family, his lawyer Lanny Davis said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Due to ongoing threats against his family from President Trump and Mr. [Rudy] Giuliani... by advice of counsel, Mr. Cohen's appearance will be postponed to a later date," Davis said.

Trump in a tweet last week said that his former lawyer had lied about the work he did to reduce his jail sentence and called for "watching" Cohen's father-in-law regarding other possible violations.

Cohen as part of a plea deal alleged that the president directed him to pay two women hush money over extramarital affairs.

Davis in the statement said that his client looks forward to testifying before Congress at the appropriate time.

"This is a time where Mr. Cohen had to put his family and their safety first," Davis said.

Cohen earlier had said he looked forward to opening up to Congress about the full truth with respect to his relations with Trump.
