Helsinki did not provide Moscow with any evidence proving that the source of interference with GPS signals during recent NATO drills was located in Russia, the Russian Embassy in Finland said Monday.
The Finnish Foreign Ministry said earlier in the day it had conveyed concerns to Russian Ambassador Pavel Kuznetsov with regard to the disruption of GPS signals and security risks it might have caused to air traffic in the region.
"The Russian side stressed that flight safety is just as important for Russia as it is for Finland. At the same time, the attention was drawn to the fact that we were not provided with any information that the source of interference was allegedly located in Russia," the embassy said in a statement.
"We believe that for a professional review of this kind of situations, a thorough expert dialogue is required through the relevant services of the countries of the region," the statement said.
The Trident Juncture exercises, held on October 25 - November 7 in several northern European countries, including Finland, were overshadowed by several instances in which pilots reported losing GPS signals. Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila stated that they were being investigated as possible jamming by Russia. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on November 15 that Moscow would respond to possible questions related to the matter after Helsinki and Oslo use diplomatic channels.
