Fire At Landmark Lisbon Hotel Injures Three

LISBON, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Feb, 2017 ) : Three people were treated for smoke inhalation on Tuesday after a fire broke out at the 25-story Lisbon Sheraton hotel, one of Portugal's tallest buildings, officials said.
The fire started at about 1 pm on the 21st floor, and smoke spread through the 369-room hotel via the ventilation system, Lisbon city councillor Carlos Castro told reporters. "The hotel's emergency plan worked well and firefighters intervened quickly, which avoided more serious consequences," Castro said.
About 1,000 people, including employees and hotel guests, were evacuated, the director of the hotel, Antonio Pereira, told the Diario de Noticias newspaper.
Firefighters put out the blaze within 40 minutes and three people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, the head of operations for Lisbon's firefighters, Antonio Vinagre, told AFP.
A Swedish man was among the three injured, according to the Lusa news agency. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The hotel, which is about 90 metres (300 feet) high, has a restaurant on the top floors that is famous for its views of the Portuguese capital.
