Foreign Nationals Charged for Illegally Voting in 2016 US Elections - Justice Department

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th August, 2018) Nineteen foreign national have been charged for illegally voting in the 2016 US elections, the Department of Justice said in a press release on Friday.

"Robert J. Higdon, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina today announced that nineteen foreign nationals were charged with, among other crimes, voting by alien for their actions prior to and on November 8, 2016," the release said.

The individuals come from a broad range of countries like Mexico, Haiti, Italy, Germany, Japan, Panama and others.

Of the 19 foreign nationals, 12 originate from Latin America, three from Europe, three from Asia and one from Africa.

The individuals engaged in falsifying documents or providing fraudulent identity in order to falsely claim US citizenship, the release said.
