NUR-SULTAN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th April, 2019) Formation of the Syrian constitutional committee has almost been completed, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev told Sputnik on Friday, adding that the end of the process and launch of the committee may be announced during the next round of Geneva talks on Syria.
"[Creation of] the constitutional committee is currently being coordinated, [the process] has almost been finished," Lavrentyev said, adding that participants of the Astana-format talks might meet during the next round of talks in Geneva, whose date has not been announced yet.
He pointed out that there were only two or three issues that must be solved before the constitutional committee can be created.
"If earlier it was a rather big set [of issues] that had to be solved, now only two or three issues remain on table. I hope that [UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir] Pedersen would be able to settle these issues in the near future," Lavrentyev told reporters.
He added that Pedersen may announce creation of the constitutional committee during the next round of reconciliation talks in Geneva.
