Four Russian Missile Forces Regiments To Receive Yars Missile Complexes In 2019 - Minister

At least four regiments of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces will be provided with modern Yars mobile missile complexes, while another missile regiment will be equipped with the Avangard hypersonic missile complex, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th January, 2019) At least four regiments of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces will be provided with modern Yars mobile missile complexes, while another missile regiment will be equipped with the Avangard hypersonic missile complex, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.

"In the current year we will continue to enhance the combat potential of the Strategic Missile Forces. In particular, we will rearm four regiments with Yars missile complexes and proceed with the deployment of a missile regiment with the newest [missile] complex, Avangard," Shoigu said.

He added that the plans to modernize the country's Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers would also be implemented as scheduled this year.

In addition, the Russian Navy this year is also expected to receive a nuclear submarine cruiser of the Borei-A project, Knyaz Vladimir, which will be armed with Bulava ballistic missiles, Shoigu recalled.

In December, Shoigu said over 30 launchers carrying Yars and Avangard intercontinental ballistic missiles would be put into service in Russia in 2019.
