Four Turkish Soldiers Killed in Counter-Terrorism Operations on Iraqi Border - Reports

Four Turkish soldiers were killed and six others were injured during counter-terrorism operations on the Turkish-Iraqi border, local media reported on Saturday, citing the Turkish Defense Ministry

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th April, 2019) Four Turkish soldiers were killed and six others were injured during counter-terrorism operations on the Turkish-Iraqi border, local media reported on Saturday, citing the Turkish Defense Ministry.

The ministry said that terrorists came under heavy fire by Turkish military aircraft, according to the Anadolu news agency.

The ministry did not specify the name of the militant group, targeted by the Turkish forces, but the agency hinted it could be the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is listed as a terrorist organization in Turkey.

Tensions between Ankara and the Kurds escalated in July 2015 when a ceasefire between Turkey and the PKK collapsed over a series of attacks allegedly committed by the PKK militants. The Turkish forces are involved in anti-PKK raids across the country and in northern Iraq.
