PARIS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th November, 2018) France launched an initiative on Monday called the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace in order to develop worldwide principles to avert cyberattacks and secure a safe internet for all, the French ForeignMinistry said.

The initiative was presented by French President Emmanuel Macron at the UNESCO Internet Governance Forum (IGF), organized by France.

"Cyberspace, which is becoming increasingly central to our lives, is a place of opportunity, but also of new threats. The growth in cybercrime and malicious activity can also endanger both our private data and certain critical infrastructures .

.. In order to respect people's rights and protect them online as they do in the physical world, States must work together, but also collaborate with private-sector partners, the world of research and civil society," the declaration read.

The Paris Call is backed by such tech giants as Facebook, microsoft and Cisco as well as by Canada, Denmark, Japan and Qatar.

China, Russia and the United States have not joined the initiative, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The issue of cybersecurity has been gaining momentum over the recent years as the number of countries and business organizations were targeted by malign activities.
