San Francisco, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jul, 2018 ) :A last-gasp try from Anne-Cecile Ciofani handed France an upset victory over Australia to send the Olympic champions crashing out of the women's World Cup Sevens on Saturday.
Ciofani scampered over in the corner to complete a 19-12 comeback victory for the French, who will now face New Zealand in the final at AT&T Park later Saturday.
Australia, who brought eight members of their 2016 Rio Olympics gold medal-winning squad to the tournament, appeared to be heading for victory after tries from Evania Pelite and Ellia Green helped them take a 12-0 lead.
But an injury to Fiji-born flier Green changed the complexion of the game, and France recovered to score tries from Chloe Pelle and captain Fanny Horta before Ciofani's late winner.
In Saturday's second semi-final, defending champions New Zealand were made to work hard by the United States on their way to a 26-21 victory.
The US women powered into an early 14-7 lead after two tries from Naya Tapper before the Black Ferns recovered to pull clear with scores from Ruby Tui, Gayle Broughton and Portia Woodman.
