French President, German Chancellor Discuss Syria, Ukraine, Migration - Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during which the two officials discussed Syria, Ukraine and migration-related issues, the Elysee Palace said in a statement on Friday.
PARIS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during which the two officials discussed Syria, Ukraine and migration-related issues, the Elysee Palace said in a statement on Friday.
"The president and the chancellor exchanged [opinions] on the situation in Ukraine � in Syria, in particular, the situation in the Idlib region, where humanitarian risks are very high ... [and on the issue of] rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean," the statement reads.
Macron and Merkel insist on the necessary efforts to support an inclusive political process in Syria that will ensure sustainable peace in the region, and agree on the need for a coordinated European decision on the issue of migrant smugglers, the statement adds.
The conversation took place a day before Merkel's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
