French Senators' Delegation To Visit Moscow In 2019 - Head Of Foreign Affairs Committee

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) A delegation of French senators will visit Russia in 2019, Christian Cambon, the president of the Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee, told Russian Izvestia newspaper in an interview published on Tuesday.

"We are expecting that a delegation of French senators, in particular, of representatives of the Foreign Affairs Committee, will go to Russia to meet our Russian colleagues in mid-2019," the senator told the newspaper.

Cambon added that this format of interaction was very important for both sides.

"The lawmakers' role is to do everything to expand the relations between our countries. We have to study the issues where our positions differ and develop the fields where we have common ground," Cambon was quoted as saying.

The senator stressed that anti-terrorism fight was a particularly important field of cooperation.

Cambon remarked that anti-Russian sanctions were "rather burdensome," weighing down France's agriculture and manufacturing.

"We have to do everything possible to be able to work on common issues in these circumstances and for the two sides to approve the cancellation of sanctions at some point," the senator said.

Cambon said that ""meeting, talking, working together" was the best means to resolve the issues related to sanctions.
