A full-scale meeting between the leadership of Russia and African countries will drive forward Moscow's relations with the region, Andrei Kemarsky, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of Africa, said on Tuesday.
"A full-scale Russian-African summit, the idea for which was introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the BRICS summit, will give an additional impetus to the development of the entire range of relations with African countries," Kemarsky said at a round table in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of South Africa's late political leader Nelson Mandela and anti-apartheid activist Albertina Sisulu.
Kemersky added that the Inter-Parliamentary Conference "Russia-Africa," and the Russian-African business forum were scheduled for the first half of 2019. He also noted that an international meeting of high-level representatives responsible for security matters was also expected to take place in 2019.
The 10th annual summit of BRICS states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa was held in Johannesburg on July 25-27.
