Gambino Crime Family Boss Francesco Cali Fatally Shot In New York - Police

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) Francesco Cali, the boss of the Gambino crime family, was shot and killed in New York near his house, the New York City Police Department said Thursday.

US media has earlier reported that Cali was killed Wednesday night.

"In regard to the homicide of Francesco Cali: Last night ... Cali exited his Staten Island home, has a conversation with an individual then approx.

12 shots are fired, 6 striking the victim causing his demise. The investigation is ongoing- more details to be released," the NYPD said on Twitter.

Cali reportedly became the Gambino acting boss in August 2015. He is the first New York mob boss to be murdered since 1985.

Apart from the Gambinos, there are four other major Italian American Mafia families in New York: the families of Bonanno, Colombo, Genovese, and Lucchese. They are known as the Five Families.
