Georgian National Disease Control Center Confirms Country's Swine Flu Death Toll Hits 18

Georgia has recorded the 18th case of death from the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health Amiran Gamkrelidze confirmed on Friday

TBILISI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th January, 2019) Georgia has recorded the 18th case of death from the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health Amiran Gamkrelidze confirmed on Friday.

Earlier in the day, the Georgian First Channel reported that a 41-year-old man died in the country from swine flu.

According to the broadcaster, the patient was taken to the clinic on January 10.

"Unfortunately, a man died at the age of 41. The H1N1 virus was laboratory-confirmed. According to our information, the man sought medical attention too late," Gamkrelidze told reporters.

The man also had a chronic disease, he noted.

Gamkrelidze added that there was no swine flu epidemic in the country. There are 253 cases of the virus per 100,000 people, he specified.
