German archaeologists found a well-preserved 6,500-year-old skeleton of a young man in the southern state of Bavaria, local media reported on Thursday
According to the Welt media outlet, the archaeologists also found a stone axe and seeds of a grain plant near the skeleton of the man, whom they called Fred.
Archaeologist Scott Tucker said that such findings were very rare. He explained the good preservation of the skeleton with the high concentration of calcium in the soil.
Not far from Fred, the archaeologists also found ceramic plates, remains of food, river shells and a 4,500-year-old skeleton of a 12-year-old boy.
The excavations were held because of a vine producer's plans to construct facilities on this territory.
One of the most famous ancient bodies found in Europe is the so-called Similaun Man, or simply Oetzi, whose mummy was found in Italy's South Tyrol in 1991. A body of a man who died approximately 5,500 years ago was found with well-preserved clothes and equipment in a glacier and is now exhibited in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano.
