MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 30th November, 2018) The German authorities suspect that criminal motives might have been behind a technical malfunction that forced Chancellor Angela Merkel's plane to make an emergency landing on its way to the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, local media reported on Friday, citing sources in security agencies.
On Friday, Merkel's plane had to make a forced landing due to a technical malfunction about an hour into the flight and landed in Cologne, local media reported.
According to the Rheinische Post newspaper's sources, investigators are treating the incident as a "criminal" case. Meanwhile, government officials have said that all possible motives are being considered, the newspaper added.
Spiegel, in turn, reported that the situation with the plane was so serious that German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen had been informed about it. Fire trucks also arrived at the landing area.
