Germany wants the European Union to speak with one voice at the UN Security Council and will push for this when it joins the UN body as a non-permanent member next year, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Monday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) Germany wants the European Union to speak with one voice at the UN Security Council and will push for this when it joins the UN body as a non-permanent member next year, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Monday.
"We want to shape our membership in a European way and campaign for EU's unified and effective representation at the Security Council," Maas said before leaving for New York.
Germany was elected last June as one of 10 non-permanent Security Council members for 2019-2020. France and the United Kingdom, which quits the union in March 2019, are the UNSC permanent member states.
The German top diplomat said his country wanted to focus on rapid prevention of global crises, specifically in such areas as climate and security, and promote better information exchange.
