BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with EU's lead Brexit negotiator Michele Barnier in Berlin on Thursday for talks on UK's exit and a possible delay, her spokeswoman has said.

"At 4:30 p.m. [13:30GMT] tomorrow the chancellor will welcome at her office EU's main negotiator Michel Barnier. Of course, they will talk about Brexit issues," Martina Fietz said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Berlin expects the British government to come up with a new plan on UK's exit from the European Union that could be backed by the Commons, Fietz said, adding the bloc was open to a delay "if Great Britain wants it to be postponed."

The Commons voted down last week a deal proposed by Prime Minister Theresa May. She put forward a Plan B on Monday, describing how her government wanted to move ahead, but offered little change. A debate in parliament on her new proposal is expected by the end of January.
