Global Aluminum Production Increased By 1.5% To 64.34Mln Tonnes In 2018 - Statistics

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) The global production of aluminum increased by 1.5 percent in 2018 and amounted to 64.341 million tonnes compared to 63.404 million tonnes produced in 2017, according to the statistics provided by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) that comprises major aluminum producers.
Enterprises in North America produced 3.774 million tonnes of aluminum in 2018 (a decrease by 4.5 percent), while South American companies produced 1.164 million tonnes (a decrease by 15.5 percent).
According to the statistics, Western European countries produced 3.732 million tonnes of aluminum in 2018, which is 1.2 percent less than in 2017, while Central and Eastern European countries increased the production by 1.
3 percent to 4.049 million tonnes.
China increased the production of aluminum by 1.6 percent to 36.488 million tonnes, while other Asian nations increased the production by 11.7 percent totaling 4.415 million tonnes. The nations of Oceania produced 1.917 million tonnes (an increase by 5.5 percent), Persian Gulf states produced 5.334 million tonnes (an increase by 3.6 percent), while African states decreased the production by 0.7 percent to 1.668 million tonnes.
The IAI noted that these figures are preliminary and some indicators can be updated.
