Google on November 2 paid homage to Mexico's Day of the Dead holiday with a new Doodle.

The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, honors death and embraces it as a part of the cycle of life.

The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, honors death and embraces it as a part of the cycle of life. The holiday consists of All Saints Day on Nov. 1, which is devoted to little children and All Souls Day on Nov. 2, which is dedicated to adults.

The Google's homepage features colorful skeletons and skulls placed on an altar, alongside two burning candles. Doodler Nate Swinehart handcrafted the set up out of clay.

Families celebrate Day of the Dead by setting up altars in their homes that display favorite food and drinks, photographs and mementos.

Burning candles and incense is also customary to set the mood, evoke the spirit world, and serve as a reminder that death is just another part of life and that human connections will always endure, Google said.

Google celebrated Day of the Dead last year by posting colorful artwork featuring the animals used to represent those who have died -- including a skeleton dog and a monarch butterfly.
