Greece Considering Confiscation of German Assets As Part of Reparation Claims - Reports

The Greek government and lawmakers may have been discussing potential seizure of German assets in Greece as a way to collect the World War II reparations, if Berlin refuses to pay, Spiegel magazine reported on Friday, citing sources

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th April, 2019) The Greek government and lawmakers may have been discussing potential seizure of German assets in Greece as a way to collect the World War II reparations, if Berlin refuses to pay, Spiegel magazine reported on Friday, citing sources.

On Wednesday, the Greek parliament voted to give Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras mandate to seek reparations from Germany.

Greece intends to turn to the International Court of Justice in the Hague and the London International Court of International Arbitration first, but the case might be complicated to make, Spiegel reported, citing sources.

Germany's government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Wednesday that Germany assumed its historic responsibility. He added, however, that the matter of reparations had been settled.
