Greece is going to send a large delegation of business people to the 2019 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2019) and expects Russian companies to take part in the 2019 Thessaloniki International Fair, an adviser to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Russian issues told Russian reporters on Thursday
According to Dimitris Velanis, the Greek delegation will be sent along with the group on organization of Helexpo exhibitions.
"This year, together with Helexpo we are preparing a group of business people, who will officially take part in the SPIEF with [focusing] specific issues of cooperation. Hopefully, they will sign some agreements in St. Petersburg. We are going to send a big delegation, which will be headed by the Helexpo leadership and me as a representative of the prime minister's office. A minister or several ministers will also visit [the SPIEF]," Velanis said.
According to the prime minister's adviser, there are other formats of cooperation between Greece and Russia, for example, the contract between Helexpo and Roscongress non-financial development institution.
"The contract, particularly, envisages preparations for events such as the SPIEF, scheduled for June 2019, and participation of Russian companies in the Thessaloniki [International] Fair that will be held in September," Velanis stressed.
He added that the Roscongress leadership provided assistance in preparing for both St. Petersburg and Thessaloniki forums.
SPIEF, held annually in Russia's second largest city of St. Petersburg, is a major global platform for communication between business representatives and the discussion of crucial economic issues. The SPIEF 2019 is scheduled for June 6-8.
