Greek Authorities Seize $113Mln Drug Batch on Board Syrian Ship Going to Libya - Reports

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th December, 2018) The Greek authorities said they had seized some 100 million Euros ($113 million) worth of drugs on board a cargo vessel sailing from Syria to Libya, local media reported.

The seized batch included over 6 tonnes of hashish and over three million pills of captagon, an amphetamine-type drug also known as the jihadist drug for its popularity among middle Eastern militants, according to the AMNA news agency.

The drugs had been hidden inside eight containers with a false bottom, in which coffee and spices had been shipped, the outlet added.

The authorities detected the vessel earlier this week near Crete and decided to accompany it to the Heraklion port where the freighter was searched.

The vessel's crew, including 10 Syrian nationals and one Indian citizen, said they knew nothing about the illegal cargo they transported.
