United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Sri Lanka's Permanent Mission to the UN to pay his condolences over a series of terrorist attacks that rocked the South Asian nation on Easter Sunday, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a press briefing on Tuesday
"The Secretary-General will be going to the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka late this afternoon, early evening, to sign the condolence book," Dujarric said.
Meanwhile on the ground in Sri Lanka, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization will continue to provide medical supplies and psychological treatment to the children and families injured or affected by the attacks, Dujarric said.
The island nation is reeling from a series of coordinated attacks that struck churches and luxury hotels, killing at least 321 people and wounding 500 others. Earlier on Tuesday, the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) terrorist group reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Sri Lanka launched a criminal investigation immediately after the attacks and has so far arrested 40 suspects.
