Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group Begins Deployment With US 6th Fleet - Navy

The Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier strike group has commenced its latest deployment with the US 6th Fleet, which is responsible for operations in Europe and Africa, the US Navy announced in a press release on Tuesday.

"The strike group which departed Norfolk, includes the flagship Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman; the nine squadrons of Carrier Air Wing 1; Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy; and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 28, USS Arleigh Burke and USS Forrest Sherman," the release stated.

The US Navy explained that additional strike group assets operating in the region include the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers Bulkeley and Farragut.

The strike group got underway in late August, completing training exercises and carrier qualifications in the Atlantic, to include participating in dual-carrier operations with the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and bi-lateral operations with the Royal Canadian Navy, the release explained.

The US 6th Fleet is responsible for operations in Europe and Africa, according to the release.
