Head Of Crimean Society Of Bulgarians Calls On OSCE To Visit Crimea, Talk To Locals
SIMFEROPOL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th September, 2018) Ivan Abazher, the leader of the Crimean Republican Society of the Bulgarians, told Sputnik on Sunday that he had called on the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to visit Crimea promptly.
He voiced this invitation during the OSCE's annual human rights and democratic conference, which is currently underway in the Polish capital of Warsaw. Abazher, along with other Crimean social activists, is taking part in the event.
"I have invited the OSCE delegates to visit Crimea, without putting this decision aside. They should make a determined decision, and see with their own eyes how the Russian Crimea is developing, and also communicate with the local population in order to understand why the Crimeans have decided to reunite with their historic motherland," Abazher said.
He added that people could have a negative opinion about Crimea only because of lack of knowledge about the situation, or because of unwillingness to see the obvious.
The Crimean peninsula, a former Ukrainian territory, rejoined Russia in 2014 following a referendum that resulted in the majority of its residents voting in favor of the move. However, Kiev has not recognized the reunification in spite of Russia's repeated claims that it had been conducted in compliance with international law.
