One of directors of the Polish office of Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei, Weijing W., and former high-ranking employee of Poland's Internal Security Agency (ISA) Piotr D. were arrested in Polnad on suspicion of spying for China, local media reported Friday
The TVP broadcaster reported that both suspects were detained on Tuesday by ISA officers. On Thursday evening, the District Court of Warsaw decided to arrest them for three months. Suspects were charged with espionage against Poland.
The broadcaster said that ISA officers also conducted searches in the homes of the suspects and withheld documents from the offices of Huawei and Orange, a company that Piotr D.
recently worked for.
TVP also reported that the suspects did not confess guilt and refused to testify in the case.
According to TVP, Piotr D. was an employee of the ISA until 2011, where served as the deputy head of a department for teleinformation security, as well as adviser to a head of the intelligence service. His resignation was related to a scandal involving corruption during public auctions, but no charges were filed against him. Piotr D. allegedly had access to information on how to operate a government communication system, which secretly transferred data to the country's leadership.
