Humanitarian aid should enter Venezuela only if the government of President Nicolas Maduro agrees to authorize it, South African Ambassador to the United Nations, Jerry Matthews Matjila, told Sputnik
WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd February, 2019) Humanitarian aid should enter Venezuela only if the government of President Nicolas Maduro agrees to authorize it, South African Ambassador to the United Nations, Jerry Matthews Matjila, told Sputnik.
The Venezuelan opposition set Saturday, February 23, as the date for bringing in US relief aid that had been collected at logistics hubs in Brazil, Colombia and on the Caribbean island of Curacao. Maduro, however, has been refusing to allow the aid into the country, blasting it as a ploy to topple his government.
"Any humanitarian aid to Venezuela must be with the agreement of the government of Maduro ... They are the government. Like any other country you should go into respecting the territorial integrity of the country," Matjila said.
