MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th March, 2019) The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has already started establishing contacts with the newly elected president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, and his team, and expects no substantial changes to its operations in the country, Jordi Raich Curco, the head of the ICRC regional delegation in Mexico and Central America, told Sputnik.

"We have a wide range of activities in El Salvador and we will continue doing so. We always work in coordination with the authorities.

So as soon as he and his team take office - we have already started establishing relations - but I don't expect our work to change substantially," Raich Curco said.

Bukele, the former mayor of San Salvador, won his country's presidential election in February with nearly 54 percent of the vote.

El Salvador is covered by the ICRC's regional delegation in Mexico and Central America, which mostly deals with issues related to migration and missing persons, as well as supports efforts to prevent violence among youth.
