MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) As many as 22 countries that account for nearly 40 percent of global exports, including India, China and Russia, fail to enforce laws against foreign bribery, a report released by the anti-corruption organization Transparency International revealed on Wednesday.
The watchdog, headquartered in Berlin, assessed the enforcement of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Anti-Bribery Convention, which requires its signatories to criminalize bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions.
The report examined the performance of 40 OECD anti-bribery convention signatories and four non-OECD convention exporters such as China, the world's largest exporter, Hong Kong, India and Singapore, which together account for some 18 percent of world exports.
They were on the list of the worst enforcers along with Russia, Belgium, Bulgaria Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland and a dozen of other countries.
Seven countries, including Germany, Norway, Switzerland and the United States, accounting for 27 percent of world exports, were deemed as "active" enforcers of anti-bribery laws.
