India Invites Russian Observers to Monitor 2019 Parliamentary Elections - Lawmaker

New Delhi is inviting a Russian observation mission to monitor India's parliamentary elections next year, Venkaiah Naidu, the chairman of the upper house of the Indian parliament, said on Monday.

NEW DELHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2018) New Delhi is inviting a Russian observation mission to monitor India's parliamentary elections next year, Venkaiah Naidu, the chairman of the upper house of the Indian parliament, said on Monday.

"In 2019, the parliamentary elections will be held [in India], and we will be glad to welcome observers from Russia," Naidu said at a meeting with Russian State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

The lawmaker also stressed that the Indian leadership was paying significant attention to the development of the Indian-Russian relationship.

A Russian parliamentary delegation, led by Volodin, is currently visiting India. The Russian lawmakers are also expected to meet with the speaker of the Indian parliament's lower house.

Volodin met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on Monday.
