Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is willing to visit Japan by the end of 2018, the prime minister's office said in a statement on Monday.
NEW DEHLI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is willing to visit Japan by the end of 2018, the prime minister's office said in a statement on Monday.
"Prime Minister Modi warmly recalled the successful visit of Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, to India last year, and said that he is looking forward to visiting Japan later this year," the statement, published after Modi's meeting with Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera in the Indian capital of New Dehli, read.
Modi welcomed the enhancing of the Indian-Japanese ties, saying that cooperation in the defense area was "a key pillar" of bilateral relations.
"He welcomed the strengthening of various defense dialogue mechanisms between the two countries, and the enhanced linkages between the armed forces of India and Japan," the statement read.
According to the statement, Modi voiced his support for cooperation in defense technology.
During Abe's two-day visit to India in 2017, the two sides signed a total of 15 documents, set to strengthen cooperation in economy, investment, civil aviation, education, science and technology.
