JAKARTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Aug, 2017 ) : Indonesia opened on Thursday an international auto show, expecting to attract more investment of car manufacturers that would adopt local components and create more jobs to eventually propel national growth.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of 2017 Gaikindo Indonesia InternationalAuto Show (GIASS) in Serpong, west of capital Jakarta, Industry MinisterAirlangga Hartarto said that along with manufacturing sector, the car industry has significant multiplier effect to boost the nation's economy.
The minister said that car manufacturing are employing 5 million people from 36 car plants across the country at present, adopting at least 1,500 domestic car components from various quality grades.
He added that domestic car market was now favorable to absorb cars produced in the country, with growing car sales figure in the last several months.
The minister said that auto car sales has grown to 532,127 units in first half this year, slightly higher than 533,570 units recorded in the corresponding period last year.
"Car sales grow, indicating that public's purchase power remained growing. Indonesian economy remained strong, so optimism is still there," the minister said. The 2017 GIASS auto show, themed "Rise of the Future Mobility" and lasting until until Aug.
20, showcases new technology and car models manufactured by automakers from German, Britain, the United States, France, Japan, South Korea, India, Sweden and China. Some 30 car manufacturers take part in the annual auto show, including Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Daihatsu, Datsun, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, KIA, Lexus, Mazda, MINI, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Renault, Suzuki, Tata, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.
