RYAZAN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) The first international forum of ancient cities, which is currently being held in the Russian city of Ryazan, in long term will contribute to the activation of humanitarian exchanges, investment attraction and cultural ties' development, Alexander Bikantov, the deputy director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told reporters on Thursday.
"Culture is one of few channels of dialogue, which we still have with the Western countries ... For sure, in the long term [this forum] will boost people's exchanges, investment attraction and cultural ties," Bikantov said.
The diplomat expressed his hope that the forum would help to promote Russia's not only positive, but, first of all, objective image.
Bikantov also expressed an opinion that Ryazan was chosen as a host city for the forum reasonably as the city had played an important role in the development and shaping of the country for many centuries and had many achievements in the fields of culture and art.
"I can say that when I am abroad and discuss interregional cooperation, all countries have a vague knowledge of our regions except for some very developed places like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok and Yekaterinburg. And Ryazan is known and known for a number of reasons," Bikantov added.
The first international forum of ancient cities is being held in Ryazan on August 12-19. The representatives of 40 world's cities created over 500 years ago are taking part in the event. The forum aims to consolidate the Russian and international communities by preserving and developing ancient cities and developing intercultural cooperation.
