Int'l Parliamentary Conference on Arctic to Be Held in Finland Next Week - Statement

Some 50 lawmakers representing all Scandinavian countries, Canada, Russia, the European Parliament, and indigenous peoples of the North, as well as observers from China and Singapore will participate in the parliamentary conference on the Arctic, set to be held in Finland next week, the press service of the Finnish parliament said on Monday

HELSINKI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th September, 2018) Some 50 lawmakers representing all Scandinavian countries, Canada, Russia, the European Parliament, and indigenous peoples of the North, as well as observers from China and Singapore will participate in the parliamentary conference on the Arctic, set to be held in Finland next week, the press service of the Finnish parliament said on Monday.

The Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region is scheduled for September 17-19 in the Finnish village of Inari, located in the northernmost region of Northern Lapland, the press service said.

"The conference is held in Finland every 18 years. We wanted to attract lawmakers from other countries so that guests could see how people live in the North," Finnish parliamentarian Katri Kulmuni, who is heading her country's delegation, said as quoted in the statement.

At the conference, the Finnish delegation intends to discuss environmental protection of the region, as well as cooperation in meteorology and training. The issues of climate change, energy efficiency and energy saving will also be on the agenda.
