TEHRAN: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 3rd, 2024) Iran arrested several intelligence and military officials as part of the probe into the assassination of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh on Saturday.
The media reports said that the Iranian authorities took intelligence and military personnel, along with employees from Haniyeh's guesthouse into custody and started investigation.
According to the US media reports, Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran caused major concerns about the country's security, and led the authorities to hold investigation through a special intelligence team from the Revolutionary Guards.
Haniyeh was killed on July 31 while attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran.
His assassination is seen as a substantial blow to the Palestinian liberation movement, and Iran has stated it is committed to avenging his death.
As of now, Israel has not claimed responsibility for Haniyeh's assassination.
Haniyeh was killed in a missile strike, with claims that Israel had tracked his whereabouts using spyware on WhatsApp.
Further investigations revealed that a bomb was secretly placed in Haniyeh's room prior to the incident, and it is alleged that Israel coordinated the bombing with the help of Iranian agents, with Iran reportedly in possession of images of these agents.
However, no official confirmation surfaced from the Iranian side as how the unfortunate incident took place at such an important place.
