Iran, Iraq Sign Agreement on Border Security Cooperation- Reports

Iran and Iraq have signed on Tuesday an agreement on cooperation in fighting terrorist groups and exchanging intelligence at the two countries' shared borders, local media reported.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) Iran and Iraq have signed on Tuesday an agreement on cooperation in fighting terrorist groups and exchanging intelligence at the two countries' shared borders, local media reported.

According to the Iranian Fars news agency, the document was signed during the meeting held between Iran Border Guards Command Brigadier General Qassem Rezayee and his Iraqi counterpart Major General Hamid Abdullah Ibrahim Hosseini, following a discussion of the issues related to the two countries' common borders.

Iran's Law Enforcement Police Commander Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari emphasized during his meeting with Hosseini on Sunday the importance of enhancing security cooperation between Iran and Iraq.

"Given the presence of certain terrorist groups in some of the bordering points to foment insecurity in these regions, expansion of cooperation between the security forces of both countries is inevitable and we should decrease these crimes through more cooperation," he was quoted as saying by Fars.

Iran is currently concerned over the Islamic State (outlawed in Russia) terrorist group's presence in the neighboring state of Iraq.
