Iran Security Council Chief Backs Dialogue With Region's States in Light of Ahvaz Attack

Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani said on Monday that it was important to maintain dialogue with other Middle Eastern states following the recent terror attack in the capital city of the Iranian Khuzestan province.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani said on Monday that it was important to maintain dialogue with other middle Eastern states following the recent terror attack in the capital city of the Iranian Khuzestan province.

On Saturday, at least 25 people were killed and 60 others injured in the terror attack targeting a military parade in the city of Ahvaz. Saudi-backed Ahwazieh secessionist movement has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

"It is necessary to preserve common sense, enhance cooperation and dialogue and curb destructive efforts of the enemies on creating disagreements between the countries of the region," Shamkhani said, as quoted by the IRNA news agency.

The official said that Tehran managed to identify "foreign roots" of the terror act in Ahvaz.

According to Tehran, the terrorist act in Ahvaz was organized by the US-backed powers of the region. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the attack was perpetrated by the "regional terror sponsors and their US masters."
