MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) Tehran will conduct joint military exercises with Muscat in the coming days, Iranian Ambassador to Oman Mohammad Reza Nouri Shahroudi said on the sidelines of the 15th meeting of Iran-Oman joint military commission, which began in the Omani capital on Sunday and will last until Thursday.
"Currently, our joint military committee is present in Oman, and we will hold a joint maneuver in the coming days," the ambassador said, as quoted by the Mehr news agency on Wednesday.
Iran regularly holds military drills near the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The strait is a strategically important route for oil transition from the region and used to be the scene of confrontation between US and Iranian warships.
