Israel Attacks About 100 Targets In Gaza Strip After Tel Aviv's Shelling - Army

TEL AVIV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) The Israeli troops attacked around 100 targets in the Gaza Strip early on Friday in response to the shelling of Tel Aviv from the Palestinian territory, the Israel Defense Force (IDF) said in a statement.
On Friday, air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv for the first time since summer 2014 as the IDF registered the launches of two rockets from the Gaza Strip. Several more rockets were fired at the southern part of Israel.
"Tonight (Friday), in response to the rockets that were launched towards Israeli territory earlier this evening by the Hamas terror organization, IDF fighter jets, attack helicopters and other aircraft struck approximately 100 military targets belonging to the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip. Among the terror targets struck was an office complex of the Judea and Samaria headquarters in the neighborhood of Rimal in the central Gaza Strip," the statement said.
The IDF noted that the hit Hamas headquarters was responsible for guiding group's terror activities in Judea and Samaria.
The Israeli strikes also hit the main manufacturing site of standard-grade rockets in the Gaza Strip, a Hamas naval post, a military training site as well as a number of posts and underground facilities.
"The IDF holds the Hamas terror organization responsible for all events transpiring in the Gaza Strip and emanating from it. The IDF views any attempt to harm Israeli civilians with great severity, and will continue to operate with determination against these acts of terror," the statement added.
For decades, Israel has been in conflict with Palestinians, who have been seeking diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which are partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity, and continues to build settlements in the occupied areas, despite objections from the United Nations.
