Israel Upgrading Country's Nuclear Facilities In Response To Iranian Threat - Official

Israel continues to renew and boost its nuclear facilities in response to the threat coming from Iran and its allies, head of Israel Atomic Energy Commission Zeev Snir said.

"In light of these destabilizing elements, we cannot ignore the repeated and explicit threats, made by Iran and its proxies, to attack Israel's nuclear sites. These outrageous threats require Israel to take action and continue to protect and defend its nuclear facilities. These facilities are constantly upgraded and reinforced, in line with IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] safety guidelines, in order to withstand any attack," Snir said on Tuesday at the 62nd IAEA General Conference, as quoted by the Israeli commission's statement obtained by Sputnik.

He called on the IAEA had to conduct a robust verification of Iranian activities and pointed out that the Iranian nuclear weapons program was a documented fact.

In April, Israeli Prime Minister Banjamin Netanyahu stated that even after signing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, meant to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, Tehran continued to keep and develop its nuclear weapons "know-hows" for future use. According to Netanyahu, Israel has obtained about 100,000 files proving that Iran's nuclear program had a military dimension, codenamed "Amad Project."

Israel is also concerned over the presence of Iranian forces in war-torn neighboring Syria.
