Japan Plans to Develop Cruise Missile With 250 Mile Range - Reports

TOKYO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th March, 2019) The Japanese Defense Ministry plans to develop cruise missile with a range of 400 kilometers (249 miles), local media reported Sunday citing government sources.

The new missile would be designed for a launch from outside of an adversary's air defense range, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.

The missile is set to be created on the basis of the XASM-3 cruise missile, the range of which is up to 200 kilometers.

Last year, the Japanese Defense Ministry requested allocating about $58 million Dollars from the budget for the financial year beginning April 1 for the research and development of engines for its own supersonic cruise missiles.
